Miscellaneous

This picture is a look at Omar's pedal board. It consists of over 20 pedals and is how Omar creates the effects on his guitar.

This is an interview with Omar in Amsterdam sometime in 2009. He is a very interesting person to listen to, with some great philosophies on music.

Fun Fact: During the recording of The Mars Volta's 4th album "Bedlam and Goliath" Omar bought a Ouija board that was cursed by evil spirits! The board brought about a serious string of bumps in the road for the recording, Rodriguez' studio flooded, singer Cedric Bixler-Savala injured his foot and had to learn how to walk again. Their audio engineer had a nervous breakdown and quit. Rodriguez spent almost 40 days straight in the studio trying to finish the songs and he couldn't quite figure out why his guitar parts kept disappearing. Despite all of this, the band prevailed and produced an album that would win them a Grammy later that year.

This is Omar with his girlfriend Ximena Sarinana. Ximena is a singer/actress who collaborates with Omar on his solo work.

This and That

1) The first video(starting from the top) is Omar playing with The Mars Volta. The song is called "Vermicide" from their 3rd studio release "Amputechture". The second is their latest single "The Malakin Jewel" from their 6th album "Noctourniquet". I personally enjoy "Vermicide" more, I've always thought Omar's best guitar work was on "Amputechture". Which song do you think is better?

2) The first image is Omar's solo album named "Solar Gambling" released in 2009. The artwork is done by Sonny Kay.
This is Omar's fifth studio album released in 2007. The artist for the album cover is unkown, but I love the graffiti look it has to it and is definitely my favorite of the two. Which album cover do you like more?

3) This guitar is a Squier Super Sonic that Omar played during his time with At-The Drive In.

This is Omar's signature guitar- the Ibanez ORM1WH. I'm a huge fan of this over the Squier guitar he played. It sounds great plugged in and it plays like a charm. Which guitar do you like better?

This is Omar's solo project named "Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group". This album was his fifth release and featured other musicians such as Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez, John Frusciante, Money Mark and John Theodore. It was also his first to reach the Billboard charts at number 40.

Omar wrote and produced a film named "The Sentimental Engine Slayer" in 2010. It has appeared in many film festivals around the world.

This is Omar with Cedric Bixler-Savala, vocalist of The Mars Volta. The two have played together for 19 years dating back to their first band At The Drive-In (1993-2001), and then The Mars Volta (2001-present). They also have collaborated on many different musical projects together.
